Abstract

The mass transfer and hydraulic characteristics were determined for countercurrent extraction in a spray column with supercritical carbon dioxide solvent. The test used system was alcohol(ethano1, iso-propano1)-water-CO©ü at 25-40¡É and 8.27~13.79 MPa. Results obtained in a 22 mm inside diameter column showed that enhanced extraction efficiencies were achieved at supercritical conditions. Models based on conventional liquid-liquid extraction were modified for supercritical conditions and correlated overall mass transfer coefficient with an average absolute relative deviation (A.A.R.D.) of 11.5%.
